Justin's Birthday

Justin is 9 years old!! He was so excited about his non-cake, which he informed me is his new favorite cake, beating out the previous winner "German Chocolate". I think he mostly liked the presentation: trifle dish showing chocolate cake, carmel, toffee and whipped cream, topped with more carmel and fun candles.Justin's friend stopped by Saturday morning to give him a gift which he was thrilled about. A game that we can all play, "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader". He tried it first thing and didn't get past the $1000 level. We need to work on that :)
From LeRoy and I he got a light-saber which shoots out at the touch of a button and makes all the appropriate Star Wars noises. He had been asking for this for a while so LeRoy was sure to find it. He also got a card castle building set. He seemed excited about this but since yesterday hasn't set down his light saber while Derek and Erika have spent hours building with the cards. Derek has already informed us what he now wants for his birthday.

As a little PostNote: Justin has been wanting to go for the McGyver haircut but Saturday night we decided that it would be more appropriate for him to go to the temple dedication looking a little more clean cut so I cut his hair for him. He thought he was loving his longer hair but shortly after his cut he commented that he really does like the shorter "fuzzy" hair.

Jared and I can't believe how much Justin looks like Jared in these pictures. Jared was the one to notice it. Sorry I forgot his birthday--Saturday was a full day with the funeral and then we went to the temple. Sunday--church and the dedication. I will call him tomorrow.

I told Brendan that Justin's birthday was just two days after his and he said, "We should send him a check". I think he really enjoys getting money for his birthday even if it come in that form. And sorry we didn't actually send one. Hope you all had a great day.

I thought that the third picture looked a lot like Levi. Isn't it funny how the littlest traits show up in all of us? I can't wait to have birthdays where my boys ask for something specific rather than me trying to figure out the most educational and worthwhile toy.
