Outdoor Monday

My two little boys had a great Monday! Mostly because they were outside most of the day instead of cooped up in the house while I ignored them, did the minimum and set them in front of the tv. I've tried really hard to spend more quality time with them, as well as the other kids, so I have set my office hours from 9:30 to 11:30 at night. I still have to do some work during the day and I try to do it during their naps but it has really helped to have the mental set up of just going to work at 9:30.

Our first activity on Monday was a trip to the Nature Park to feed the ducks. I have to admit I probably would not have done this on my own but it was Mom and Me day with the Relief Society so we went. It was really fun. There were only 5 other moms there but it was perfect for really getting to know a few women in the ward instead of the usual overwhelming feeling of a bunch of people I don't know.

Nathan and Hyrum LOVED it! Nathan was so excited about the ducks, plaing on the toys and wandering around in nature. Hyrum just seemed to love the fresh air.

We were at the Nature Park from 9:30 to 11:30 and then it was time to take lunch to LeRoy. Poor LeRoy loses his personal time with me when I go to work at 9:30 so I've tried to give him a little more daytime - lunch. We picked him up at work at noon and with the 2 little boys we went to the park and ate. It was a fun little picnic (just simple sandwiches) and it really made LeRoy and I feel young to have only the little boys with us.

For FHE we had been invited to go horseback riding with another family in the ward. They had also invited the new family that moved in 2 houses down from us. It was a little uncomfortable at first because we were 3 families with a total of 19 kids and none of us knew each other. By the end of the evening we were all good friends. They really had only 1 horse that was calm enough for all the kids to ride but the kids were all great about taking turns. While some were riding the horse, others were jumping on the trampoline, playing volleyball, swinging and feeding the other 2 horses. Derek went on the horse 3 times and love it. He enjoyed the galloping, riding with someone else and riding alone. Justin is always on the go so I didn't even get a picture of him. LeRoy and Erika spent most of the time playing volleyball. Levi is more like me and is ok to just play with the little kids and visit with the more 'stay in one place' adults. We all ended with a small campfire and smores.

These two activities were great for me because I have had a hard time knowing where I fit in with this ward. It fits my personality better to have small doses of people to really get to know rather than jumping in a new neighborhood and ward and really making myself known.

how fun! i think i might have to suggest a mom and me for our ward or something...or if there is i should find out about it ;)
i'm glad you were able to meet some families in the ward in a non-church setting, it's so much easier to feel human--if that makes any sense...

That's awesome that you are trying to make time for your family and still get work done. I don't know how you do it - you're my hero!

I'm glad you were able to meet a few families at a time. It's hard to make friends with individuals when you have so many people to meet.
